Was asked by a community member to attempt a 2GB upgrade on this 1.86ghz 02+ unit (most of the early EVT models were built with 1GB modules to keep costs down during prototyping). I made it very clear how much of a hack job my first attempt was, but they wanted to take the risk anyway.

Early prototype with no serial number sticker:

Both the fan ribbon cable and the SSD ribbon cable were not original to the 02+, being retrofitted to fit. Also first time seeing a 128GB RunCore SSD, that was cool.

Red OEM 1GB module. Neat color, and different than the original 1GB module in my 02+ and size comparison to the 2GB 214 pin MicroDIMM for the HTC Shift.

The protective metal cover/shield on this unit was not soldered into place over the chipset/CPU, unlike mine. This made the needed modifications infinitely easier than the first go-round, having to Dremel the metal in-place without damaging anything.

Heatsink and metal cover removed:

Areas to be removed with Dremel:

Corner of MicroDimm radiused gently with 400 grit sandpaper:

This tab will also need to be removed for proper fitment:

Easy fix with the Dremel cutting wheel:

Wrapped MicroDIMM in a few layers of protective kapton tape:

Cleaned the old thermal paste of the 1.86ghz Atom, and applied new MX-4.

Perfect fit with no modifications needed to the heat pipe.

The metal area covered with the piece of Kapton tape on the chassis had to be filed slightly to accommodate the MicroDIMM. Straightforward enough.

No clearance issues for the display unlike the first attempt at this with my own 02+.
